How to develop poise

If you are asked to name a few women who you think are poise, graceful, classy and elegant, who will you pick?

Most people will probably think of iconic figures who are the epitome of poise and class, such as Audrey Hepburn, Grace Kelly, Jackie Onassis, Princess Diana or even Kate Middleton.

While these famous women are definitely great role models for us to learn from, it may be difficult for us to imagine transforming into someone like that, simply because they are rich, famous or from the upper-class.

I mean, we are just ordinary people living and working like everyone else, so what’s there to talk about poise when everyone else around us are not even there, or can’t be bothered?

How do we sustain being a poised woman in this ordinary environment, without falling back to our old ways?

Well, if you have the same thoughts, I want to say a big CONGRATULATIONS to you!

Why’s that?

It means you desire a change! And the first step to change always begin in your mind.

You also need to realise that this decision will put you in the minority group of women who wants a change (I’m guessing maybe like 20% or less?).

You know what this means?

This means you trying to be a non-ordinary woman living in a ordinary world!

Sure, it’s always easier for women from the upper class, or those who are rich and famous to become poised because they have a lot of support and training in this area.

It doesn’t matter if it’s out of their genuine heart or out of peer pressure to be poised, confident and classy. If they hang out with people like these all the time, they will be inclined to become one due to the environment they are in.

That means we ordinary women will have a tougher job to become one. Nothing will come easy and we need to genuinely want this.

But think of it this way.

This also signifies that we have our own values and we want to establish them, no matter what people say or what type of environment we are in.

We doing this for ourselves or to be a good role model for our kids, so we defy the odds to train ourselves until we become one.

I don’t know about you, but this sure sounds like an awesome way where a woman displays her strength and can have a backbone!

Hence, to prevent ourselves from creating our own mental barriers and making the dream of becoming a feminine woman of poise and confidence look unattainable and elusive, we need to reframe our mind first.

So to the question of how an ordinary woman can transform into a poised, confident and classy lady that draws people, the answer is to make a decision to be one and stand by it.

This is really the first step to everything else.

Without this commitment, you will not be intentional or mindful with everything that you do to effect a change. You will simply not be motivated to read up, practice or act out anything.

Decide today.

Knowledge is power, and taking that knowledge and combining it with action is the catalyst to change.

Promise yourself that you never stop learning and trying no matter what, even if you have failed at times!
